Tigers´ strong start continues

5 april 2013 13:49

In a scrappy AFL match at the MCG, where both sides struggled to use the ball effectively, the Tigers took the lead early on and were never headed on their way to a nervy 14.15 (99) to 12.10 (82) victory.

The last time the Tigers had a win-loss record of 2-0 was way back in 1997, while it is the first time since 2000 the Saints have lost their opening two matches.

In the battle of the Riewoldts, it was the younger Jack that earned bragging rights at the next family dinner with seven goals, while Saints skipper Nick worked hard all night to finish with four majors as well as 11 marks.

Tigers skipper Trent Cotchin was held to just nine touches in the first half, but exploded after half-time to finish with 31 disposals and was a major force in the last quarter when the heat was on.

Brett Deledio had possession 27 times, while Reece Conca was very impressive with 25 touches, a goal and a crucial interception late in the game.

For the Saints, Ben McEvoy was the standout big man with 26 hit-outs and 19 possessions around the ground, while Leigh Montagna gathered 27 disposals.
